All events took place at the Stouffer Renaissance Mayflower Hotel (1-800-HOTELS1 or +1 202 347 3000) in Washington D.C. Preliminary round tournament games were played in the State Room; final round games were transmitted by closed circuit television to the State Room, and simulcast to MarlDOoM.
Eighty players played a twenty-one game Swiss-paired preliminary round. The top two finalists, Joel Sherman and Matt Graham then played a best-of-five match on the last day to determine the new World Champion.
